Hi everyone! Our students are currently enjoying a silent 20 minute journalling time - please ask your child to see what they journaled about during our class meetings all three days when you see them. Yesterday was a 3 season sort of day... From the summer temps we saw on Tuesday, the wind blew and the rain fell and even some snow blew around Thursday. Most of our groups did not canoe due to the intense winds on the lake. Instead, they spent time shelter building and playing a variety of games and doing some trust type activities. Rather than campfire, we spent the time in the lodge playing a highly active and exciting game of picture charades. When Mr. Reid, Ms. Miles and I went out for our good night rounds, we walked into warm tipis with lovely fires and lots of smiling faces!
Today (Thursday) all our groups went on all day hikes! Again we saw a huge swing of weather. We had lovely sunny hours, some rain, some thunder and a few hail storms. All the students are now sitting quietly journalling - many fresh from their post hike showers. The students really enjoyed their hikes, seeing and learning lots of new things/areas. We returned to a very yummy dinner of teriyaki chicken and cous cous and the daily salad bar. In an hour or so we will head off to the final campfire. Everytime we talk with or walk by one of your lovely children, they have big smiles and a story or two to share with us about their adventures. I know they are excited to see you tomorrow and over the weekend when I have collected all the cameras from them, I will post more photos.
Tuesday, May 23 - Camp Day 1
Hi everyone! We are having a fabulous time out at camp and the weather has been fantastic so far. Last night there was a bit of rain during the night but at breakfast this morning, everyone looked alive and happy. Our students are in 5 tipi groups within 2 clans out at the camp: River and Wetlands. The wind is a bit brisk and the temperature is definitely lower than yesterday, but we are not complaining!
Yesterday, some of the kids worked on the challenge course and went voyager canoeing. The Wetlands clan (4 of our groups) spent time learning about the forest and then playing the Animal Game. Everyone seems to be well fed and hydrated. We had an amazing sharing circle during our classroom meeting where the kids gushed about their favorite things as well as things they learned. Campfire rounded out the night and when we did our nightly rounds, everyone was settled into their sleeping bags. I have included some photos we were able to take yesterday. Hope you enjoy!
